Help Finding Your Way

Trauma Therapy for Couples and Individuals

Wondering if it's time for therapy?

Have you or someone you love had a lot of trauma in your life? Are you experiencing emotional pain or stress because of neglect, abuse or loss? Is it now affecting your relationship and you’re wanting to be happier? Do you wish you could communicate better with your partner? Do you long to feel emotionally healthier? Do you wish you could be accepted for who you are?

If so, then I’m sorry you’re suffering, but I’m glad you found your way here.

Jack Alan Copley is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist who helps couples and individuals struggling internally and in their relationships.

I’m Jack, and I help people feel more at home in their relationships, lives, and bodies.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist and an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, I help people dealing with a wide range of challenges. But I work primarily with people who have experienced loss and trauma in the past and are having a hard time getting their feet on the ground today. Maybe you’re here because trauma has affected how you relate to your partner and you want to save your relationship. Or possibly you’re trying to trust them and people again in general. Maybe you’ve internalized negative messages about sex because of what you’ve been through and you want to feel more at peace in your mind and body. Whether you’re here to navigate relationship problems, to work through how to let it all go, or to heal from sexual shame, I have training and knowledge that has helped a lot of people just like you.

Whatever brings you here, I provide a space where your story is honored. Together, we’ll work with approaches that respect you, your values, and your goals and move you along the path closer to peace.

And because I am open and affirming of all people—regardless of your sexual orientation, age, race, faith, marital status, or gender—you can trust that you will find acceptance and be taken seriously.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Not at all. Whether you’re religious, spiritual-but-not-religious, or fully secular — you’re welcome here.

  • I work with both. Some people come to therapy alone to explore their own healing; others come with their partner to work on improving connection and communication. We’ll decide together what makes the most sense for your situation.

  • Absolutely. This work is about your relationship with yourself first and foremost, whether or not you have a partner.

  • Nope! We’ll explore your full life context — including relationships, identity, self-worth, and more.

  • Yes! I work with clients via secure telehealth throughout Ohio and West Virginia.

  • In addition to traditional talk therapy, I use a range of evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches tailored to your needs. These include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Brainspotting, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Havening Techniques, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and more. These methods help process trauma, release stuck emotions, and create meaningful change beyond just talking about it. With couples, I rely heavily on the work of the Gottmans, Sue Johnson, and Terrence Real. And often, couples therapy itself is a really good form of trauma therapy.

  • Many clients experience meaningful shifts in how they view and experience sex — often feeling freer, more confident, and less weighed down by shame. While everyone’s journey is different, this work is designed to support that kind of change.

  • It varies, but we’ll discuss your goals early on and keep track of progress together.

  • Yes — confidentiality is essential and legally protected, with rare exceptions, which I’ll explain upfront.

  • Absolutely. All identities, orientations, and expressions within the LGBTQIA+ community are welcome and affirmed here. And I do not offer or promote “conversion therapy.” This is a space where you can show up fully as yourself — without judgment or the need to explain who you are.
